Action Against Hunger

Global humanitarian organisation founded in 1979, employing 8,500+ staff across 55+ countries on nutrition, WASH, food security and emergency response programmes.

Action Against Hunger employs more than 8,500 staff worldwide, over 95% of them recruited in the countries where the organisation works. The workforce supports programmes in more than 55 countries, reaching over 26.5 million people. The organisation was founded in 1979 by a group of French doctors, scientists and writers, inspired by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Alfred Kastler, and its headquarters origins are in France.

The organisation works against the causes and effects of hunger across four core operational areas: nutrition and health; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); food security and livelihoods; and emergency response. Technical work spans therapeutic nutrition formula development, malnutrition treatment, WASH engineering and rapid humanitarian deployment. Its pioneering therapeutic milk formula, F100, was developed to treat acute malnutrition and is now used globally as standard treatment; it reduced mortality rates among severely malnourished children to below 5%.

Action Against Hunger directs 90% of donations to lifesaving programmes and is rated among the world's highest-rated nonprofits by Charity Navigator, Candid and Charity Watch. Staff work in a mission-driven culture focused on ending world hunger, with an emphasis on local capacity and on research and innovation in nutrition and public health.
