West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing

A New York City non-profit founded in 1976 that develops and manages supportive and affordable housing, including senior apartments and SRO units, plus Older Adult Centers, for low-income seniors.

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH) is a community-based non-profit that develops, manages and operates supportive and affordable housing for low-income older adults in New York City. Founded in 1976 by a coalition of social service agencies, religious institutions and community organisations, it runs approximately 30 buildings across the Upper West Side, Harlem, Chelsea, Manhattan Valley and the Bronx, marking 50 years of operation in 2026.

Its portfolio spans senior apartments, studio apartments, Single Room Occupancy (SRO) units and supportive congregate buildings. The congregate buildings serve seniors, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness. Alongside housing, WSFSSH runs Older Adult Centers in Manhattan Valley that provide services and activities and operate a cooling centre during heat emergencies. Work across the organisation covers property management, building ownership and the delivery of individualised social services.

WSFSSH describes its approach as responsible building ownership, compassionate property management and individualised social services, with the aim of creating communities in which seniors can thrive. The organisation serves low-income older persons, many with mental illness and/or a history of homelessness.
