Neo.Tax

Neo.Tax builds an AI engine that automates IRS R&D tax credit applications for enterprises, integrating with engineering and finance systems to generate audit-ready documentation.

Neo.Tax, founded in 2019 and based in Mountain View, California, builds an AI engine for enterprise tax. Its platform automates the IRS R&D tax credit application process - beginning with R&D credits and ASC 350-40 - using artificial intelligence to remove surveys, interviews, FIN48 and RTP from the workflow. The system integrates directly with project management tools such as Jira, payroll systems, GitHub and financial ledgers, analysing engineering data in real time to generate audit-ready documentation that meets IRS standards. The company has raised $25m and counts Fortune 2000 firms among its clients, including Adobe, Capital One, Thomson Reuters, Mercury, Notion and SoFi.

The product rests on six agentic AI models that work continuously across engineering signals: Project Creator, which establishes a single source of truth for R&D and software-cap decisions; IRS Qualification, which assesses claims against IRS codes and regulations; Quantifier and the QRE Calculator, which determine credit amounts and Qualified Research Expenses; Project Narrative, which drafts supporting documentation; and QRE Defender, which substantiates calculations and produces audit-ready records. The underlying technology spans machine learning models trained on IRS codes and court cases, real-time data engineering and analytics, systems integration, and natural language processing and document generation.

Engineering work touches tax regulation automation, real-time analytics and integration with the systems - project management, payroll and financial ledgers - where companies already keep their evidence. Neo.Tax is SOC 2 Type II certified and maintains ISO 27001 compliance, with single-tenant deployments for enterprise customers. It is backed by investors including Infinity Ventures and Google Ventures, and describes its ambition as extending to other areas where CFOs encounter friction beyond R&D credits.
