Mater Misericordiae Ltd

Mater Misericordiae Ltd is Queensland's largest not-for-profit healthcare provider, running 11 hospitals, Australia's largest maternity service, plus medical research and health education.

Mater Misericordiae Ltd is Queensland's largest not-for-profit healthcare provider, operating a comprehensive health network that spans hospital care, maternity services, medical research and health education. Founded in 1906 by the Sisters of Mercy, the organisation has served the community for more than a century and today looks after nearly 700,000 patients each year across 11 public and private hospitals, with a twelfth due to join the network.

Alongside its hospitals, Mater runs Australia's largest maternity service, delivering approximately 12,000 babies annually. Its work extends well beyond clinical care: Mater Research conducts medical research, Mater Education offers nationally accredited health programs, and Mater Foundation carries out the group's fundraising and philanthropic activity. These arms were unified under a single Mater Group in 2016. Mater Hospital Springfield, a new facility in Springfield, Queensland, is set to open in early 2026.

The organisation is active across four technical domains: medical research, healthcare delivery, clinical services, and health education and training, offering roles in clinical and non-clinical functions alike. Mater describes itself as mission-driven and values-based, with an emphasis on compassionate care and on responding to unmet community healthcare needs. It is governed by a Board of Directors and the Mater Executive, with continued expansion and investment in research forming part of its direction.
