Hospital Sisters Health System

A Catholic health system founded in 1875, running 13 hospitals, clinics and 1,000-plus physician partners across Illinois and Wisconsin, employing over 10,000 people.

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is a Catholic health care organisation founded in 1875 by the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. It operates a network of 13 hospitals, numerous community-based health centres and clinics, and a physician partner network of more than 1,000 across Illinois and Wisconsin, employing over 10,000 colleagues and serving hundreds of thousands of residents in the two states.

Work spans the full continuum of care: acute and post-acute services, primary and specialty care, community health and wellness programmes, and advanced health care technology. A care integration strategy links these settings so that patients move between primary, specialty, acute and post-acute services within a single system, giving staff exposure to coordinated, multi-site delivery rather than isolated facilities.

The system is a mission-driven healing ministry rooted in Franciscan values and committed to revealing and embodying Christ's healing love, honouring the teachings of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. It describes its working culture as one of patient-centred, high-quality care and of relationships built on respect, care, competence and joy, with a stated aim of excellence in every encounter with patients, families and colleagues.
