Hospice East Bay
Nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider in Contra Costa County, California, offering end-of-life care, inpatient symptom management and community grief support since 1977.
Hospice East Bay is a nonprofit hospice organisation serving patients and families in Contra Costa County, California. It provides medical, emotional and spiritual support at the end of life, with the aim of allowing patients to die at home with dignity and comfort. Founded in 1977 by community volunteers as a grassroots movement, it has operated for nearly five decades and states that it remains guided by its founding principles of compassion, dignity and comfort. The organisation has been certified as a Great Place to Work for six consecutive years.
Its services span several areas. Hospice Care combines medical care with emotional support and spiritual guidance for patients wishing to die at home. Palliative Care covers patients living with serious illness. Bruns House, an inpatient facility offering acute symptom management in a home-like setting, is the only inpatient hospice facility in the Greater Bay Area. Grief Support Programmes are open to the wider community, not only to families of patients under the organisation's care.
Hospice East Bay runs a Sponsored Care Programme under which it commits to treating all medically qualified patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Part of its funding comes from six thrift shoppes in Alamo, Concord, Danville, Martinez, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek, the proceeds of which go directly to patient care programmes. The organisation's operating footprint covers Contra Costa County and the wider East Bay region.
