Alice & Bob

Alice & Bob, founded in 2020 and based in Paris, is building a universal fault-tolerant quantum computer using cat qubits and self-correcting superconducting processors.

Alice & Bob, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Paris, is developing a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer. The company employs more than 140 people drawn from over 20 countries, with a growing presence in Boston alongside its French headquarters. It has raised €130 million in funding.

Its technical approach rests on the cat qubit, a superconducting qubit designed to implement quantum error correction autonomously. By using Bosonic codes and self-correcting superconducting quantum processors, the design is said to require up to 200 times fewer qubits than competing technologies to reach fault tolerance. A universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer remains in development, guided by a published five-milestone roadmap with delivery targeted for 2030.

The technology is intended for problems in drug discovery, molecular simulation, cryptography and optimisation. Alice & Bob works in a field where it competes directly with companies such as Google and IBM.
