WVU Medicine
WVU Medicine is West Virginia's largest health system and academic health enterprise, running 25 hospitals and five specialised institutes across patient care, research and medical education.
WVU Medicine is West Virginia's largest health system and the state's largest private employer. A nonprofit academic health enterprise affiliated with West Virginia University, it operates 25 hospitals across West Virginia and its bordering states, spanning community hospitals, critical access facilities and regional medical centers. Its flagship academic medical center is located in Morgantown.
The organisation combines three functions: patient care, medical research and the training of healthcare professionals. Clinical work is organised through five specialised institutes covering cancer care, critical care and trauma, eye care, heart and vascular health, and neuroscience. Healthcare education and training programmes run alongside clinical services as part of its academic mandate.
WVU Medicine states a mission to improve the health of West Virginians and all those it serves through excellence in patient care, research and education. A stated aim is to provide high-quality care close to home, so that patients need not travel far for specialist treatment, and the organisation describes its facilities collectively as the WVU Medicine family.
