Meritus Health
Meritus Health is a nonprofit academic health system in Western Maryland operating Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, a regional care network and, since 2025, an osteopathic medical school.
Meritus Health is Western Maryland's largest healthcare provider and a nonprofit academic health system. Founded in 1904, it operates Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, and a regional healthcare network serving the tristate area of Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The organisation employs more than 3,000 team members and works with over 500 affiliated medical staff professionals.
Its flagship, Meritus Medical Center, is a hospital of more than 300 beds equipped with advanced medical technologies; the facility began with 10 beds at the system's founding. In 2025 Meritus opened the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, establishing the system as a teaching hospital and clinical training site. Its technical and professional domains span healthcare delivery, clinical care, osteopathic medical training, medical education and community health.
Meritus Health states a mission of improving the health of the community by providing healthcare, health services and medical education, with an emphasis on delivering expert care close to home. It has been named a finalist for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, one of only six non-profit organisations in the United States to receive that distinction, and positions itself as a model community-based health system.
