West Tennessee Healthcare is a public, not-for-profit, self-supporting health system that has served West Tennessee for more than 70 years. It employs over 7,000 people across 90 hospitals and medical centres covering some 9,000 square miles, and provides care to more than half a million people in a 19-county area of rural West Tennessee. The system does not draw on local tax revenues; instead it reinvests all income into its services, technology and facilities.
The organisation's anchor is Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, a 642-bed tertiary care centre and the only one between Memphis and Nashville. Around it sit six Centres of Excellence, among them the West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center, which treats more heart attacks than any other hospital in Tennessee, and Kirkland Cancer Center. The West Tennessee Women's Center delivers more than 4,000 babies a year and runs the region's only level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, while the West Tennessee Neuroscience and Spine Center includes the region's only Joint Commission-certified stroke centre. Emergency services are provided across the system.
The range of clinical work spans acute and tertiary care, cardiovascular medicine, oncology, neuroscience and spine, women's health and obstetrics, neonatal care, emergency medicine and stroke care, alongside medical technology.
