UMOS

Founded in 1965, UMOS is a multi-state non-profit providing workforce, education and social services - early childhood, employment training, housing, food and crisis relief - to families in seven states.

UMOS is a multi-state non-profit organisation founded in 1965 by community and faith leaders, originally to serve migrant and seasonal farmworkers. It now delivers integrated workforce, education and social services to individuals, families and communities of all cultures and linguistic backgrounds, with a stated goal of helping families become self-sufficient. The organisation employs more than 1,000 professionals across more than 60 offices in seven states, among them Wisconsin, Texas, Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota. Headquarters are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Its work is organised into three divisions. The Child Development Division runs early-childhood services, including Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and Migrant Child Care. The Workforce Development Division covers employment and education programmes: Adult Basic Education, the National Farmworker Jobs Program and Wisconsin Works, a welfare-to-work scheme. The Social Services Division provides crisis relief and supportive services, including Anti-Human Trafficking work, Agricultural Worker Housing, a Food Pantry, Health Promotions and the Latina Resource Center.

The operating footprint spans several industry verticals - workforce development and employment training, early childhood education and child care, housing assistance, food assistance, health promotion, crisis relief and adult education - largely serving agricultural and migrant communities. Employees work within a mission-driven organisation that reports holding the same values since 1965 despite decades of expansion.
