The Arc Eastern Connecticut

Nonprofit providing residential supports, daytime programmes, employment services and community integration for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in eastern Connecticut.

The Arc Eastern Connecticut is a nonprofit organisation serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families across the eastern Connecticut region. Its work spans four areas: residential supports, providing housing and in-home assistance; daytime programmes; employment services, which help people with IDD participate in the workplace; and community integration initiatives. The organisation serves over 800 individuals and families.

The Arc Eastern Connecticut was founded in 1952 by parents of children with IDD who were committed to equal participation and choice for their children. It was formed in its present shape in July 2019 through the merger of The Arc Quinebaug Valley and The Arc New London County, two local chapters of The Arc. Its advocacy work has continued since 1952.

The organisation's stated emphasis is on equality of opportunity, individual choice and full community inclusion for people with disabilities. It is governed by a board of directors and staffed by professional employees. It operates within the nonprofit human services, intellectual and developmental disability services and advocacy sectors.
