Mountain Shadows
Mountain Shadows Support Group operates 27 residential homes and support programmes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Southern California, employing 400+ staff.
Mountain Shadows Support Group is a provider of residential care and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1984 by Jim Hooyenga and Don Nydam on a chicken ranch and avocado grove in Escondido, California, it has grown from a single property into a network of homes and programmes serving Southern California, including North County San Diego and Riverside County.
The organisation operates 27 residential homes providing round-the-clock care to 171 residents and consumers, with more than 400 staff members employed across its services. Care is delivered in a family-like, community-based setting and is tailored to individuals of all ages, from children to senior citizens.
Beyond residential care, its services include community-based day programmes and therapeutic day programmes, independent living skills training, respite care, transportation and community outreach. Together these form a comprehensive support network designed to foster independence, growth and active socialisation among residents, staff and community members.
Work is mission-driven and organised around maintaining a secure family environment for those served. Mountain Shadows contributes to the socio-economic stability of North County San Diego and Riverside counties.
