Hawk-Eye Innovations develops precision tracking, video replay and real-time data visualization technology for sports officiating and broadcasting, used across 25+ sports in 100+ countries.

Hawk-Eye Innovations (HEI) develops precision tracking, video replay, and real-time data visualization technology for sports officiating and broadcasting. Founded in 1999 and part of the Sony Sports Innovations Group, the company builds systems intended to make officiating more accurate and transparent while improving the viewing experience for fans. Its work spans football (soccer), tennis, rugby and sports broadcasting, and it operates in more than 100 countries.

The company's technical work covers computer vision, optical tracking, camera calibration, video replay, real-time data visualization and AI-powered event recognition. Products include VIDEO REPLAY, a multi-angle capture and review system for officiating decisions; TRACK, the optical tracking and camera calibration technology behind ball and object tracking; and INSIGHT, a data aggregation and visualization platform for broadcasts. Deployments include Goal Line Technology for football, Electronic Line Calling in tennis and VAR systems at major football matches. Through Football Technology Centre AG, a joint venture with FIFA, HEI is developing automated offside detection and AI-powered event recognition.

The scale of that work is substantial: more than 25 sports are covered across 100+ countries, with over 100,000 days of live events processed. The company supports more than 45,000 football matches, 10,000 tennis court days and 1,800 rugby fixtures each year. Its technology is used at venues including Wembley in London and Melbourne Park in Australia.

HEI describes its team as a mix of inventors, mathematicians, engineers and sports fans, working to a mission of making sport fairer, safer and more engaging. The stated focus is on precision, transparency and reducing human error in sport, pursued through continued innovation in officiating and broadcast technology.
