Great River Health is a regional healthcare system serving Southeast Iowa, west-central Illinois and northeast Missouri. Founded in 1895 as a small hospital in Burlington, Iowa, it now employs 2,700 people, including 180 medical staff providers, and operates three hospital campuses: Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Henry County Health Center and Fort Madison Community Hospital. A network of more than 30 primary and specialty clinics extends its reach across the region.
The system provides comprehensive medical care, among it emergency services, surgery, family medicine, cancer treatment, cardiology and diagnostic imaging. Technical work spans health information technology, diagnostic imaging, electronic health records and digital health access. Its Patient Portal gives patients round-the-clock access to their health information, reflecting a stated belief that engaged patients are healthier patients.
Great River Health describes its mission as keeping care close to home so that patients need not travel far for specialised treatment. The system characterises itself as big enough to deliver specialised medical services while remaining small enough to know its neighbours by name.
