Geisinger Health System
Integrated health system in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, combining hospitals, a health plan, medical education and health innovation since 1915.
Geisinger Health System is a comprehensive integrated health system serving communities in central and northeastern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1915 by philanthropist Abigail Geisinger, it has grown from a single hospital into an organisation of nine hospital campuses, a health plan, a medical education institution, and an innovation institute, employing roughly 24,000 caregivers and serving about 1.2 million people.
The system combines care delivery, health coverage, education and research under one roof. Geisinger Health Plan covers some 550,000 members; the College of Health Sciences trains future health professionals; and the Steele Institute for Health Innovation leads digital-first initiatives and new approaches to care. Technical work spans digital health, care delivery transformation, research and education, with teams scaling agile ways of working to deliver highly adopted, high-impact experiences across the system.
Geisinger describes its working culture as a "team of teams" built on radical collaboration, and states five values: kindness, excellence, learning, innovation and safety. Its stated mission is "making health easier" and "making better health possible for everyone", with a stated commitment to community-based care and meaningful relationships.
Roles across the system include doctors, nurses, researchers, educators and innovators, as well as teams working on health coverage, digital health and community-based care.
