DKB (Deutsche Kreditbank AG) is a German direct bank founded in 1990 and headquartered in Berlin. It is the second-largest direct bank in Germany and ranks among the country's top 20 banks, with total assets exceeding €131 billion and approximately 5.9 million retail customers. Its business spans two main areas: online retail banking and customized commercial financing for municipalities and companies. Technical work centres on digital banking, online banking and financial technology, with DKB Code Factory, a subsidiary focused on digital banking innovation, and DKB Service GmbH, a further subsidiary of the group. Sustainable finance is a defining feature of the portfolio. DKB established the first Green Bond programme of any bank in Germany, directing capital towards energy-efficient housing, and the first Social Bond programme, funding healthcare facilities and social infrastructure. The bank has financed wind, solar and biogas installations since 1996, backing more than 7,800 projects to date.
DKB describes its mission as '#geldverbesserer' - money improvers - investing in what people need to live, and positions itself as a pioneer in sustainable banking while continuing to develop its digital banking capabilities.
