Coop
Swiss cooperative active in retail, wholesale, food production and online retail, operating 2,418 outlets with more than 95,000 employees and around 2.5 million members.
Coop is one of Switzerland's largest retail and wholesale companies, operating as a cooperative founded in 1864 by Jean Jenny-Ryffel as a small consumer cooperative. Today the Group serves millions of customers daily through 2,418 sales outlets in Switzerland, alongside specialist retail formats and online shops, and is active internationally across retail, wholesale, and production. It has around 2.5 million cooperative members and more than 95,000 employees.
The Group's operations span retail and wholesale, food production and manufacturing, online retail, and supply chain and logistics. Its production arm includes several manufacturing subsidiaries: Bell Food Group in the food sector, Halba (chocolate and food production), Steinfels (cleaning and personal care products), Reismühle Nutrex (rice milling), Pearlwater (beverage and water production), and Swissmill (milling operations).
Coop's cooperative structure places members - who are also customers - at the centre of its governance. Its stated Group vision is "Together for our customers", and the company describes a commitment to responsibility for people, regions, and ecosystems, with a presence in Swiss society dating back over 150 years.
