METRO AG is an international food wholesaler founded in 1964 and headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. It supplies tailored B2B food and non-food assortments to hotels, restaurants and caterers (HoReCa) and to independent merchants and traders. The company serves millions of professional customers in more than 30 countries through 623 wholesale stores and 94 delivery depots, and employs approximately 87,800 people.

Alongside its physical wholesale network, METRO operates METRO MARKETS, an online marketplace for distributing products to professional customers, and DISH POS, a cloud-based cash register system designed for restaurateurs. Its technical work spans digital transformation and digital services, cloud-based point-of-sale software and e-commerce platforms.

METRO develops focused assortments, products and packaging for HoReCa and trader segments, often in collaboration with customers, and provides expert advice and solutions to professional customers. Areas of emphasis include fighting food waste, transparent supply chains and responsible sourcing that protects the climate and reduces waste. Under its sCore strategy, the company is pursuing systematic investment in wholesale operations with the aim of profitable growth through 2030.
