Butler Hospitality

Butler Hospitality operated ghost kitchens in leased hotel restaurants, delivering virtual room service to guests across hotels in New York, Chicago, Miami and Washington DC, before closing in 2022.

Butler Hospitality was a venture-backed technology company that applied the ghost-kitchen model to hotels. It leased underutilised hotel restaurant spaces, operated their front of house, and converted back-of-house operations into delivery hubs, supplying virtual room service to guests at nearby properties without kitchens of their own. The company assumed full responsibility for staffing, brand standards and logistics in the restaurants it ran.

The business centred on a virtual room service platform and a portfolio of restaurant brands developed in-house through exclusive relationships with hotel owners, managers and brands. At peak, the operation served more than 40,000 hotel keys across four American markets: New York City, where the company was founded, Chicago, Miami and Washington DC. An announced expansion target of 200,000 keys across ten US markets by early 2022 was not reached.

Working areas covered food tech, hospitality technology, ghost-kitchen and virtual restaurant operations, and food delivery logistics and delivery hub operations. Butler Hospitality ceased operations around May 2022.
