ChowBus
ChowBus builds POS hardware and software for Asian and diverse restaurants, covering iPad POS, kiosks, handhelds, kitchen displays, online ordering, reservations and loyalty tools.
ChowBus is a full-stack restaurant technology company that builds point-of-sale hardware and software for Asian and diverse restaurants. Founded in 2016 in Chicago's Chinatown by two international students from the Illinois Institute of Technology, it began life as a food-delivery service for authentic Asian cuisine before expanding into restaurant operations technology. The company reports that thousands of restaurants across North America use its platform.
The product suite spans both hardware and software. On the hardware side, ChowBus supplies an iPad-based POS system, self-ordering kiosks, handheld devices for floor staff and kitchen display systems. The software stack covers online ordering, reservation and waitlist management, loyalty programmes and marketing tools. Engineering work centres on iOS-based hardware, real-time cloud synchronisation and offline mode support, with the aim of keeping service running when connectivity fails.
Restaurants in the sushi, hotpot and broader Asian dining segments form the core customer base, alongside food-delivery operations. The stated mission is to connect consumers with authentic cultural dining experiences while helping restaurants streamline operations and cut costs. ChowBus is headquartered in Chicago and operates across North America.
