BHS

BHS is a nonprofit, community-based organisation in Southern California providing behavioral health, substance use treatment and primary healthcare services across 24 facilities.

Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (BHS) is a nonprofit, community-based healthcare organisation founded in 1973 and operating across Southern California. It provides an integrated continuum of care spanning behavioral health, substance use treatment and recovery, and primary healthcare, delivered through a Federally Qualified Health Center network funded in part by HRSA. The organisation also receives funding from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and is licensed and certified by the California Department of Health Care Services, with accreditation from CARF International.

BHS runs 24 facilities: 14 recovery centers, 6 health centers, 3 community services locations and a mobile health unit. Clinical programmes include medically supervised withdrawal management, residential inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment, and mental health services. Primary care is delivered alongside these, reflecting an integrated healthcare model rather than standalone behavioural provision.

Beyond treatment, the organisation offers alcohol and drug prevention programmes, youth services, DUI programmes, housing navigation, family preservation and community engagement work. Since its founding, as the Centinela Valley Drug Abuse Coalition, more than 300,000 individuals and families have been served across locations in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Gardena, Hawthorne, Torrance, San Pedro, Wilmington, Hollywood, Pomona, Carson and East Los Angeles.

Employment with BHS sits within a mission-driven, community-based nonprofit working across clinical, public health and social services settings. Roles draw on the organisation's technical domains, which include behavioral health, substance use treatment and recovery, integrated healthcare, primary care and FQHC services, preventive health and community outreach, and mobile health delivery.
