Arizona Department of Economic Security
Arizona's principal human services agency, employing over 5,000 people statewide to deliver assistance, nutrition, unemployment, child care, and care programmes to nearly 3 million Arizonans.
The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is the state's principal human services agency, headquartered in Phoenix and operating statewide. It employs more than 5,000 people and is one of the largest state agencies in Arizona. Its programmes reach nearly 3 million individuals and families each year, spanning temporary assistance, nutrition assistance, unemployment insurance, child care, health care access, refugee resettlement, family caregiver support, developmental disabilities services, and protection and care for ageing populations.
The agency's stated mission is to help Arizonans reach their potential. Its work is directed at strengthening the workforce and reducing poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness, alongside improving health, safety, and quality of life across the state. A significant share of its activity is directed at vulnerable groups, including older people and individuals with developmental disabilities.
DES operates across several fields: human services, state government, social services, and workforce development. Given the breadth of its remit and the size of the population it serves, the agency offers roles in programme delivery, case management, administrative support, and related disciplines.
