ALSO designs and builds small, modular electric vehicles for moving people and cargo, both driven and autonomous. Founded in 2019 and spun out of Rivian after several years of stealth development, the company was started by a small group of engineers and designers and combines automotive engineering rigour with advanced software. Its stated aim is to make small electric vehicles a mainstream form of urban mobility rather than a niche product.
The company's flagship product is the TM-B e-bike, a modular platform it calls "Transcendent Mobility". The bike transforms without tools between three configurations: cargo bike, commuter bike and trail bike. Technical work spans electric vehicles, autonomy, sensing, software and vertically integrated EV technology, with modular vehicle platforms as a common thread across the product range.
ALSO is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with further presence in Seattle, Washington and Taichung City, Taiwan. The company has raised $305m in total - $105m in initial funding from Eclipse and a further $200m from Greenoaks - at a valuation of $1bn. Its design philosophy centres on modular products built around the realities of modern mobility, and it frames movement as a matter of connection, culture, freedom and collective impact.
