Adaption

Adaption, founded in 2025 in San Francisco, builds adaptive AI systems that learn continually and adapt to specific workflows, languages and industries without costly retraining.

Adaption is an artificial intelligence company founded in 2025 and based in San Francisco. It develops adaptive intelligence systems designed to learn and evolve continually, prioritising efficiency and real-time adaptability over the brute-force scaling - larger models, more data - that dominates much of the industry. The company's position is that intelligence should not arrive preconfigured or remain frozen between costly retraining cycles.

The company's platform comprises three components intended to work together: Adaptive Data, Adaptive Intelligence and Adaptive Interfaces. Adaptive Intelligence allows AI systems to adjust to particular workflows, languages and industries without expensive retraining. The wider platform is aimed at building systems capable of continual learning, drawing on technical work in adaptive compute, real-time learning and efficient machine learning.

Adaption has published more than 150 research papers on adaptive compute, real-time learning and efficient AI. It raised $50m in seed funding and is valued at $1 billion. The company is led by co-founders Sara Hooker and Sudip Roy, both former executives at Cohere, and is organised around a research-driven culture.
