About the role:
Our client, a nationally recognized ENR-leading heavy civil contractor, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support major infrastructure projects across the NYC region. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering complex, large-scale projects including bridges, tunnels, rail/transit, coastal resilience, and other essential civil works.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist the Project Manager in planning, scheduling, and executing heavy civil construction projects from start to finish
- Manage and track project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes
- Coordinate daily with superintendents, field engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain schedule and quality targets
- Support cost control and budgeting efforts; prepare and update cost reports
- Monitor production quantities and prepare progress reports for internal and client review
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules (e.g., look-aheads, baseline updates)
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure compliance and resolve potential conflicts
- Participate in safety planning, jobsite walks, and ensure adherence to all safety standards and protocols
- Foster positive relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 2–5+ years of experience supporting heavy civil projects (bridges, highways, transit, marine, utilities, or similar)
- Strong understanding of construction documents, processes, and field operations
- Working knowledge of scheduling software (Primavera P6 or similar) and MS Office Suite
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and project excellence
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous experience on NYC DOT, MTA, DEP, DDC, or SCA projects
- OSHA 30 certification
- Familiarity with subcontractor management and cost reporting tools
