Assistant Director, School Nutrition Services

Primary Purpose: Assist the Director with the supervision of daily operations of School Nutrition Services (SNS) facilities to ensure compliance with SBISD Board Policy, local, state and federal Child Nutrition Program regulations and SNS department standards.
Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in Institutional Management, Food and Nutrition, Business Management, or Hospitality Management.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to effectively direct, teach, and motivate others and be skilled in dealing with people on all levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years of management experience in the food service, nutrition, or hospitality industry is required.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities: Program Management:
- Assist Director with the administration of the SNS department to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and district regulations, policies and standards.
- Identify school food service program needs and help Director set priorities and achieve goals.
- Direct supervision of Field Supervisors to ensure on-site compliance at campus level.
- Oversee and coordinate with the Supervisors on school staffing needs.
- Coordinate with the Financial Supervisor on the preparation of accurate reports in food, labor and operating costs for each location.
- Provide technical assistance where necessary.
- Assist Programs Supervisor with the administration of the Summer Food Service Program.
- Oversee the development of all marketing and promotions programs.
- Assist Director with the planning and development of SNS budget, capital improvement plan.
- Act as management team member in the development of the department's program goals.
Personnel Management and Training:
- Evaluate campus staffing level and performance standards for all personnel and maintain staffing at all campuses.
- Develop and conduct in-service training for unit managers.
- Oversee training program of manager candidates and new employees.
- Train and assist food service managers and personnel in the use of computers in food service management.
Policy and Procedures:
- Interpret personnel policies and procedures and provide assistance in the handling of personnel issues including discipline and grievance procedures.
- Assist Director to develop standards and procedures for all program areas including financial management, personnel management and pupil services and communicate procedures and their purposes to school food service personnel.
- Develop, revise and maintain food service employee handbooks. Act as management team member in the development of the department's program goals.
Communication:
- Assist Director by acting as a liaison between SNS and Principals, SBISD staff, vendors and SBISD Operations department
- Facilitate committees within the SNS department
Other:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory
Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of SNS office staff.
- Coordinate supervision of Field Supervisors with Director.
- Train and evaluate all SNS staff.
Equipment Used: Computer and various office equipment. Communications equipment including cell phones and two-way radios.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
- Repetitive hand motions.
- Prolonged use of the computer.
