Young Americans for Liberty
A pro-liberty youth activist organisation founded in 2008 that trains student activists, builds campus chapters and backs liberty-minded state legislators across the United States.
Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) is a pro-liberty youth activist organisation founded in 2008 out of the Ron Paul presidential campaign. Its stated purpose is to identify, educate, train and mobilise young activists, building chapters on college campuses and working to elect liberty-minded legislators who will advance pro-liberty policy. The organisation describes itself as the nation's largest pro-liberty youth movement, with a presence on hundreds of college campuses across the United States.
YAL's activities are organised around what it calls the Build, Elect, and Pass Model: constructing campus chapters, supporting the election of sympathetic legislators and pursuing the passage of pro-liberty legislation. The Campus Chapter Network comprises more than 500 chapters nationwide, which serve as the base for organising and training student activists.
Two initiatives carry much of the organisation's operational weight. Operation Win at the Door mobilises thousands of student activists for voter contact; YAL reports more than 6m doors knocked. The National Liberty Legislator Coalition, a group of pro-liberty state legislators, claims credit for the passage of more than 1,000 pro-liberty bills, including measures on Universal School Choice, Constitutional Carry and tax cuts.
The organisation is ideologically committed to limited government, free markets and personal liberty, and describes its focus as generational: sustaining a voice for liberty principles over the long term and turning states into "beacons of freedom".
