Fund for the Public Interest

A national nonprofit running door-to-door grassroots campaigns for environmental and public interest groups across all 50 US states.

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national nonprofit organisation that runs grassroots campaigns on behalf of America's leading environmental and public interest groups. Its model is built on citizen outreach offices across the United States, where staff go door to door to educate and mobilise the public on environmental issues. The organisation has run hundreds of campaigns, reaching all 50 states, and has raised more than $700 million for the environmental and public interest organisations it works with.

Work carried out through these campaigns spans public education and mobilisation on issues ranging from the protection of national parks to the misuse of antibiotics in factory farming. Broader subject areas include climate change, plastic pollution, wildlife protection, clean air, clean water and the conservation of wild places. The Fund reports that millions of people have been educated and mobilised through its outreach efforts.

The organisation operates in partnership with groups such as Environment America and PIRG, providing the campaign infrastructure and field capacity that partner organisations use to build public support. Positions are typically tied to this field-based, mission-driven work, and the geographic footprint of the offices provides exposure to grassroots organising and citizen outreach across the country.
