Ultima Genomics

Ultima Genomics develops a new sequencing architecture and the UG 100 and UG 200 platforms, aiming to lower the cost of whole genome sequencing to roughly $80 and enable population-scale genomics.

Ultima Genomics, founded in 2016, develops a new sequencing architecture intended to reduce the cost of genomic information and support advances in biology and human health at scale. The company has raised over $600 million and employs more than 300 people in a rapidly growing team. Its stated aim is to enable the $100 genome by challenging conventional next-generation sequencing technologies.

The company's UG 100 Series and UG 200 Series sequencing platforms use open wafer technology and flow-based sequencing, and are designed for continuous 24/7 operation. Ultima Genomics reports a cost of approximately $80 per whole genome sequence, positioning the platforms for population-scale genomics.

Technical work spans sequencing architecture design as well as applications including single cell sequencing, proteomics, epigenomics and transcriptomics. The company's stated industry focus includes germline genomics, oncology, minimal residual disease detection and human health.
