Oxford Nanopore Technologies

Oxford Nanopore Technologies develops and sells real-time DNA and RNA sequencing technology, from the portable MinION to the high-throughput PromethION system, used in over 120 countries.

Oxford Nanopore Technologies develops and commercialises a novel generation of DNA and RNA sequencing technology, providing real-time analysis in formats that scale from portable devices to high-throughput benchtop systems. The company was founded in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford and employs more than 1,000 people. Its technology is deployed in over 120 countries.

The nanopore sequencing platform reads native DNA and RNA in real time, producing read lengths from short to ultra-long without the need for amplification or labelling. Product formats include MinION, a pocket-sized portable sequencing device, and PromethION, a high-throughput benchtop system. Applications span scientific research, healthcare and industrial use, among them microbial and human genomics, cancer research, infectious disease surveillance and environmental studies.

The company is organised around multi-disciplinary teams working across nanopore science, molecular biology, bioinformatics, engineering and manufacturing. Roles for candidates therefore range from laboratory research and algorithm development to instrument engineering and production. Oxford Nanopore Technologies is headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom.
