Education is provided through state agencies and universities. The state serves approximately 10.7 million residents.

Its territory runs from the Appalachian Mountains in the west to the Atlantic coastal plains in the east, and its capital is Raleigh. The breadth of that geography shapes the range of work on offer, from mountain and coastal environmental programmes to statewide infrastructure and administration.
