Smile Digital Health

Health technology company founded in 2011 that provides a FHIR-first Health Data Platform for interoperable sharing of structured health data, used by 120+ customers in 20+ countries.

Smile Digital Health is a health technology company founded in 2011 that builds a FHIR®-first Health Data Platform. The platform allows organisations to share structured health data interoperably, drawing on open standards to reduce barriers between information and care. Its stated aim is to transform legacy data into FHIR resources that are free from vendor lock-in, while preserving enterprise performance and full data ownership for the customer.

The platform supports more than 120 customers across over 20 countries. The organisations using it span healthcare payers, health information exchanges (HIEs), healthcare providers and research organisations. The company's technical work is concentrated on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), health data interoperability and integration, health data repositories, legacy data transformation and data management platforms - domains its founders first worked in while delivering health integration and data repository projects from 2011 onwards.

Internally, the company describes its team as inclusive, opinionated and principled, and places weight on respecting differences in individual values. Work is organised around a shared mission the company refers to as #BetterGlobalHealth, framed as transformative global health impact rather than incremental improvement.
