Quartermaster AI

Quartermaster AI builds AI-driven distributed sensor and satellite systems that turn commercial fleets into a maritime sensing network for vessel tracking and ocean surveillance.

Quartermaster AI is a maritime technology company based in Arlington, Virginia. It applies artificial intelligence, distributed sensor networks and satellite technology to the problem of global maritime awareness, converting civilian and commercial fleets into a persistent ocean sensing layer. The company serves customers in shipping, marine insurance, coast guards, navies and defence, and ocean surveillance.

Its flagship hardware product, SmartMast™, is a sensor system fitted to vessels with HD video capture and geolocation capabilities. More than 600 sensors have been deployed across over 25 countries, and the SmartMast-equipped fleet has travelled more than 10 million miles. Together these vessels form a distributed maritime sensing layer that feeds the company's software platform.

That platform, described by the company as the world's largest maritime awareness network, provides real-time vessel location data, fleet tracking, identification of vessels operating without AIS, flagging of unusual behaviour and timestamped, authenticated documentation of incidents. The company reports that more than 400,000 vessels without AIS have been identified through the network.

Technical work at Quartermaster AI spans artificial intelligence, distributed sensor networks, satellite technology, geolocation, HD video capture, maritime domain awareness and real-time data analytics. The company describes itself as mission-driven, focused on scalable technology for maritime surveillance.
