OpenClaw Foundation

A 501(c)(3) non-profit stewarding the world's largest open-source AI agent project, spanning agent frameworks, security, interoperability standards and human-agent research.

The OpenClaw Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that stewards what it bills as the world's largest open-source AI agent project. It maintains, develops and hardens the codebase for security and reliability, and describes its mission as democratizing access to AI - making it personal, fun and empowering for everyone. Major laboratories and infrastructure providers collaborate under its umbrella, and the Foundation holds that AI should be open, safe and owned by the individuals and communities who use it.

The work spans several technical domains: agentic AI, open-source software, AI agent frameworks, security and reliability engineering, interoperability standards, and research into the human-agent relationship. These map onto three core mandates - advancing research on how people relate to their agents, maintaining and hardening the codebase, and establishing interoperability standards for the agent era.

Governance is neutral and multi-stakeholder, modelled after the W3C and the Linux Foundation. Infrastructure is vendor-neutral, with no single organisation controlling the roadmap. The Foundation operates across the artificial intelligence, open-source software, research and technology infrastructure sectors.
