Northwestern Medicine
An academic health system in the Chicago area delivering patient care, medical research and education across 11 hospitals and more than 200 outpatient locations.
Northwestern Medicine is an academic health system serving the Chicago area through a partnership between Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. It combines patient care, medical research and clinical education, with a stated mission to put patients first and to “make people better by making medicine better”. Its work in the region spans more than 160 years.
Care is delivered across 11 hospitals in the Chicagoland area and more than 200 outpatient and primary care locations serving local neighbourhoods. Services range from primary and outpatient care to complex specialty and nationally ranked hospital care. The system describes its lung transplant programme - which includes pioneering lung repair techniques - as the nation’s leader in lung transplants. As part of its community benefit work, it provided $67.5 million in charity care in a single year.
Northwestern Medicine’s technical focus areas include academic medicine and medical research, transplant medicine, primary and outpatient care, complex specialty care, and translational research that moves discoveries from the laboratory to the bedside. The organisation emphasises collaboration between physicians, researchers and care teams, and the accessibility of academic medicine to local communities across Chicago and the wider Chicagoland area.
