Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) is a global architecture practice founded in 1976 by three architects, A. Eugene Kohn, William Pedersen and Sheldon Fox. The firm employs more than 600 people across nine offices in New York, London, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Seoul, San Francisco, Singapore and Berlin, and has been in operation for more than five decades.
KPF designs office towers, cultural institutions, airports, residential buildings and mixed-use developments, alongside urban design, building performance and environmental and sustainable design work. Its projects are guided by three principles - context, craft and performance - and by a stated commitment to technical, economic, environmental and social excellence. To date the practice has completed more than 200 residential projects.
The firm's early work included the redevelopment of a former armory on Manhattan's West Side into TV studios and offices for ABC, a commission that led to 14 further projects with the same client over the following 11 years. Long-term, collaborative client relationships of this kind are a stated feature of how the practice operates.
