Instrument

Instrument is a design and technology company, founded in 2005, that designs and builds digital experiences for brands through three offerings: Brand, Marketing and Product.

Instrument is a digitally native design and technology company founded in 2005. It designs and builds digital experiences for brands, working at the intersection of taste and technology. The firm operates from Portland and New York City, with team members distributed across the United States, and employs more than 300 people.

The company is organised around three core offerings: Brand, covering brand design and strategy; Marketing, covering marketing design and execution; and Product, covering the design and engineering of digital products. Rather than limiting itself to design alone, Instrument also builds what it designs. Named clients include Google, Nike, Uber, ŌURA and Eventbrite, spanning technology, sportswear, mobility, wearable health tech and ticketing.

Work is carried out by teams of makers, thinkers and storytellers - multi-hyphenate practitioners who move from idea to execution quickly, scaling up for large moments and staying nimble for smaller ones. Teams are assembled around the specific needs of each project. The company describes its approach as powered by curiosity, thoughtful curation and a commitment to the most fitting solution for every brief, with stated values of putting people first, pursuing excellence, embracing a growth mindset and applying truth in action.
