i.c.stars
i.c.stars is a technology training programme that prepares disconnected young adults for tech careers through hands-on web application development, coding and leadership instruction.
i.c.stars is a training programme that creates economic opportunity for underserved communities by connecting disconnected young adults with the technology sector. Its model is built around hands-on web application development: participants build web-based applications to solve real client challenges while receiving instruction in coding, business and leadership.
The programme combines three elements. Participants complete client challenge projects - working web applications produced for actual clients as part of their learning. Alongside this they are taught software coding, business instruction and leadership development. A third strand is professional network development, giving participants the contacts needed to begin careers in technology.
The organisation operates across the technology, workforce development and economic opportunity sectors, and describes its approach as learn-by-doing. Work is mission-driven, with a stated focus on economic opportunity for underserved communities and on serving disconnected young adults.
