Freedom Leisure
A not-for-profit charitable trust running over 130 leisure, cultural and entertainment venues across England and Wales, including swimming pools, gyms, sports centres and community facilities.
Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit charitable trust that operates leisure, cultural and entertainment venues across England and Wales. Founded in January 2002 with four centres and 240 staff, it now runs more than 130 venues, among them swimming pools, gyms, sports centres and community facilities. Its stated mission is "improving lives through leisure", delivered through a partnership approach with local authorities.
The organisation's work spans swimming lesson programmes, group fitness classes, gym and fitness facilities, sports programmes and community-focused initiatives. Venues are intended to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible to everyone, and the trust places emphasis on customer service and on creating spaces where people feel at home, supported and inspired. A belief that "everyone deserves to feel good" underpins its approach to community provision.
As a charitable trust rather than a commercial operator, Freedom Leisure sits within the leisure, culture and entertainment, fitness and wellness, sports and recreation, swimming and community services sectors. Work is organised around the operation of its venues and the delivery of programmes within them, with teams described as working to serve the communities in which the trust operates.
