Epworth

Epworth is a not-for-profit private hospital group operating seven hospitals in Melbourne and Geelong, providing acute care, specialist surgery, rehabilitation, and hospital-in-the-home services alongside dedicated research centres.

Epworth is Victoria's largest not-for-profit private hospital group, operating seven hospitals across Melbourne and Geelong. Founded in 1920, the organisation has grown to employ over 5,000 people across acute care, specialist surgery, rehabilitation, and its hospital-in-the-home programme, Epworth at Home. The group established the first above-ground radiotherapy centre in Australia, a milestone that reflects its long history in clinical innovation.

As a not-for-profit institution, Epworth reinvests its earnings into patient care, facilities, and research rather than distributing them to shareholders. This funding model supports several dedicated research centres, including the Centre for Immunotherapies and Snowdome Laboratories, the E.J. Whitten Prostate Cancer Research Centre, the Jreissati Pancreatic Centre, and the Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre. Research priorities span immunotherapies, evidence-based medicine, and studies in prostate cancer, pancreatic disease, and endometriosis.

The organisation's clinical workforce includes surgeons, physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff drawn from across the healthcare sector. Its emphasis on reinvestment in training and facilities is characteristic of its patient-first operating philosophy, which has underpinned the group's growth for more than a century.
