Crittenton Services

Crittenton Services is a licensed and accredited private non-profit behavioural health provider, headquartered in Wheeling, West Virginia. It delivers a continuum of trauma-informed mental health and substance use disorder treatment to children, families and individuals across the state, alongside childcare and early education. The organisation was founded in 1895 at the request of the Wheeling Women's Club to provide shelter for unwed mothers, as part of a network of rescue missions established by the New York businessman and philanthropist Charles Crittenton. It has operated for more than 125 years.

Its work spans several distinct settings. A licensed Residential Treatment Program for Pregnant and Parenting Girls is the only such programme of its kind in West Virginia. Wellspring Family Services provides outpatient counselling. Willow Tree Learning Academy offers childcare and early learning. Through Trauma-Informed Elementary Schools (TIES), the organisation implements trauma-informed practices in elementary schools across the region.

The organisation's practice is built around trauma-informed care and a stated commitment to meeting critical community needs, with a long-standing focus on vulnerable populations including pregnant and parenting youth, children, and individuals with trauma histories. Services are delivered throughout West Virginia from a base in Wheeling.
