Clipboard Health operates a two-sided healthcare staffing marketplace. Trained healthcare professionals select shifts on their own terms, while healthcare facilities fill urgent staffing needs instantly. The company, founded in 2016, works across healthcare, nursing and medical temporary staffing, and builds technology for two-sided marketplaces, healthcare staffing, job matching and on-demand shift scheduling.

The marketplace was preceded by a healthcare job board, created by founder Wei Deng to address nursing students' anxiety about securing employment after graduation. The job board attracted staffing agencies as customers, and that demand led to the marketplace model the company runs today. Clipboard Health was originally launched as an income-share agreement alternative to student loans for software engineers, lawyers and doctors before pivoting to nursing and healthcare staffing.

Several principles underpin the company's approach. Wei Deng set a mission in early 2016 to help others climb the socioeconomic ladder, grounded in the view that unemployed and underemployed people want jobs rather than financial assistance. Flexibility for both healthcare professionals and facilities is central to the product, and the company's history of pivots - including direct outreach to facilities - reflects a willingness to change direction on the basis of customer discovery.
