Capital One is a financial services company and bank holding company founded in 1994 and headquartered in McLean, Virginia. It offers credit cards, auto loans, savings and commercial banking services, and reports more than 65m customer accounts. The firm employs tens of thousands of associates and describes itself as a technology company operating in banking.

Its technical work centres on artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics applied to consumer and commercial finance. Capital One pioneered the mass customization and personalisation of financial products, including credit cards and auto financing, and continues to push the use of technology in financial services.

The company operates in the United States, Canada, India, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore and the United Kingdom. It remains founder-led under chief executive Richard Fairbank.
