Brown University Health
Rhode Island's first academic health system, running teaching and community hospitals, primary care and specialty services across Southern New England with more than 20,000 staff.
Brown University Health is Rhode Island's first and most comprehensive not-for-profit academic health system. Formed in 1994 through a strategic partnership that brought together Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, it now employs more than 20,000 staff across Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and the wider Southern New England region. Its teaching and community hospitals are affiliated with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and the system combines clinical care with research and medical education.
The system's hospitals and services span a broad clinical range. Rhode Island Hospital operates the state's only Level I Trauma Center. Bradley Hospital, the nation's first pediatric psychiatric hospital, provides specialist paediatric behavioural care. Brown Health Medical Group, the largest multi-specialty medical group in the region, includes over 870 physicians, while Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care serves approximately 125,000 patients at more than 20 locations. Urgent care facilities and specialist centres complement the hospital and primary care networks, with clinical programmes in oncology, cardiovascular care, neurosciences, orthopedics and behavioural health.
Work across the organisation spans academic medicine, clinical research, medical education and a range of clinical specialties, from trauma and emergency care to paediatric psychiatry. Brown University Health describes itself as mission-driven, with core values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence, and an emphasis on treatments developed through its academic affiliation.
