Reporting to the VP Transportation Group/VP US operations the Transportation Network Manager role is a newly created position designed to build, manage and scale the domestic US transport operations team. This role acts as the key SME who supports contract logistics/transport operations, leads multi-modal carrier and transport network development and establishes the transport teams that will drive future growth and ensure goals and results are aligned across the group.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the freight team as appropriate. Conduct performance management, oversee training, progressive discipline, and team members day to day activities.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with carriers and participate in carrier procurement, rate and contract negotiation activities.
- Lead and/or assist in RFP’s related to new transport business opportunities and lead the deployment of any new transport business ventures in support of group and corporate strategies.
- Take the lead in identifying continuous improvement opportunities to enhance customer experience related to transport operations.
- Participate in and contribute to both operational & financial analysis related to the ongoing transport business.
- Participate in TMS implementation and migration projects related to transportation services.
- Lead the US transport operational budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with VP Transport and finance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 10+ years management experience in the transport/contract logistics industry
- Minimum 5 years experience in carrier management/network optimization highly preferred
- Post secondary degree or diploma in Business or Logistics Management
- Must be able to develop creative solutions to unstructured business problems and influence others through both oral presentations and written documentation
- Must possess strong communication skills, and be able to develop trusted relationships with all levels and roles in the organization as well as customers and carriers/vendors
- Highly developed leadership skills including selection, coaching and counseling team members, evaluating performance, team building, and administration and operational planning including budgeting and resource allocation.
- Self-motivated and thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Able to work autonomously on an ongoing basis.
- Willingness to take on ad-hoc tasks.
- Experience with comprehensive TMS applications preferrable .
