About District Public:
District Public is a small and growing business looking for a Data Coach to join our team! We were founded in 2014 with a mission to help K-12 public schools in New York City analyze and make more effective use of their data. We help schools make data more accessible, understandable, and actionable. We help schools build capacity by providing professional development and coaching.
We think of ourselves as data coaches for school leaders and educators. We support them to achieve the best possible results for their students. Currently, we work with over 100 NYC district K-12 schools across all five boroughs.
We work collaboratively with school teams to understand their challenges, build tools and analyses, and facilitate inquiry coaching programs that are tailored to their needs. We help schools save time, improve instruction, make better decisions, and instill a culture of continuous learning and improvement anchored in data. We aim to know the school and their team so we can help them tackle their most pressing problems. We're looking for someone special to join our team to help us provide better support to more schools.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Areas of Need:
We're searching for an agile, creative, problem solver with public K-12 education experience, strong communication and relationship management skills, and number sense to help put those skills to use supporting public K-12 schools in New York City. You must be comfortable juggling multiple projects simultaneously, and be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. We frequently work under tight deadlines, so you must be organized, efficient, and able to carefully prioritize your work.
The job has four main parts, with the primary responsibilities of:
- Client management:
- Work directly with school leaders and teachers to identify needs and manage that relationship as the "face" of District Public
- Manage logistics such as securing needed files and scheduling meetings/sessions
- Project management
- Manage timelines to ensure you/the District Public team meets deadlines, especially for your clients' projects
- Coaching, presentation, and facilitation:
- Present analyses to school leaders and teachers and facilitate high quality and interactive professional learning sessions anchored in a continuous learning approach.
- Plan collaborative sessions which may be held in person, virtually on video, or over the phone depending on the circumstances
- Data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and tool building:
- Translate data analysis into clear and actionable steps for school leaders and educators
- Work with, provide input on, modify, or at times build analytical models used to analyze data from schools.
- Present analysis visually in a way that's clear, concise, and impactful.
In this role, you will be responsible for working collaboratively with other members of the District Public team and directly with clients (school leaders and teachers) to meet client needs. In some cases, you will work from the direction of a District Public partner or other team member. In other cases, you will be working directly with school teams and must be comfortable presenting to and facilitating sessions with school leaders and teachers. You will be adapting existing District Public analyses and approaches to the unique needs of your clients, and occasionally developing new analyses and approaches.
You will also help District Public itself continuously improve, providing input on others' projects, helping streamline and standardize our internal operations and approaches, and lending your content knowledge and expertise to improve how we work and what we deliver to clients.
Skills and experiences that will enable you to thrive:
- You have strong relationship management, presentation, facilitation, communication, and project management skills and have experience with facilitation as well as presenting to groups
- You have worked in/with K-12 public education
- You have an internal drive and strong organization and prioritization skills so you can exceed expectations with very limited supervision
- You excel at balancing being thorough and efficient in a hybrid remote/in-person work environment with multiple clients/projects at various stages
- You are attentive and detail-oriented and have your own personal organizational habits and systems
- You love collaborating with others and managing client relationships, while working together to find creative solutions.
- You are quick to pick up new tech and tools and have proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets with an interest in deepening skills
Extra bonus if you have one or more of these skills or experiences:
- You have taught in a K-12 classroom
- You have directly supported schools and school teams with data analysis and management
- You have experience in a consulting, training, or facilitation role
- You have a knowledge of improvement science or action research
- You have worked in or around New York City public schools
- You have data visualization and/or graphic design skills
- You have skills in MS Access, MySQL, Python, Tableau, R, or other database, data visualization, or analysis programs
