Overview:
Our client is logistics and management company specializing in services for the automotive and transportation industries. They focus on areas like origin plant releasing, local haul-away, inventory control management, and other logistics functions.
In this role you will oversee a large team and lead the trucking logistics operations—managing drivers, dispatch teams, planners, and supervisors across multiple states (union and non-union). This senior role requires a strong, hands-on leader who balances strategic vision, data analysis, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and extensive team development within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Directly manage a large team of dispatchers, area managers, planners, supervisors, and driver leads.
- Foster a high-performance culture by setting clear targets, coaching leaders, and holding all levels accountable.
- Lead by example to earn the trust of union and non-union personnel, promoting safety, integrity, and operational discipline.
Transportation Planning & Analytics
- Design and oversee route planning, load optimization, carrier assignments, and fleet utilization strategies.
- Leverage Excel, TMS platforms, data, and other analytics tools to model performance, forecast capacity, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with Hours-of-Service (HOS) regulations and standards for safety logs and regulatory reporting.
Customer & Carrier Engagement
- Serve as a primary contact for key customers and vendors—providing operational updates, KPI reporting, and supporting service growth.
- Collaborate with internal sales, pricing, and account teams to expand service offerings and improve service-level performance.
Labor & Union Relations
- Manage interactions with union employees and labor leadership, ensuring transparency and consistent adherence to the union contract.
- Implement systems to track driver performance, attendance, and disciplinary processes; enforce union and company policies consistently.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee both day and night trucking operations across regions to maintain consistent service delivery and quality.
- Regularly travel to terminals and regional locations to support team development, audit operations, and drive continuous improvement.
- Roll out operational initiatives—such as fleet expansion, terminal consolidation, or performance improvement programs—across multiple sites.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership experience in trucking, logistics, or the manufacturing industry.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and transportation analytics tools.
- Proven track record in building, mentoring, and leading large operations teams.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with experience in handling customer and labor stakeholder interactions.
- Willingness to travel frequently across regions, including overnight or weekend shifts.
