VITAS Healthcare is the largest single-source provider of end-of-life and hospice care in the United States. Founded in 1978 as Hospice Care Inc. in Miami, Florida, the company employs more than 12,000 team members and cares for over 22,000 patients each day across 15 states and the District of Columbia. Its name derives from the Latin word for "lives".

Care is delivered by interdisciplinary teams in patients' homes, in 30 inpatient hospice units, and in senior living communities. Each patient receives an individualised care plan, supported by proprietary clinical tools developed specifically for hospice, including pain formularies and hospice-specific wound care guides. The work spans clinical, care-planning and care-tool development roles within hospice care, home health, senior living and wider healthcare services.

The company states that patients and families come first and identifies its core values as taking care of each other, doing one's best and being proud to make a difference. In 2024 VITAS provided $14.3 million in charity care. Over 47 years it has served hundreds of thousands of families.
