Virginia Community College System

Virginia's largest higher education institution, a network of 23 community colleges offering degrees, certificates and workforce training statewide.

The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) is Virginia's largest higher education institution, a statewide network of 23 community colleges founded in 1966. It serves more than 252,000 students annually and provides associate degrees, certificates and workforce training across the Commonwealth. The system office is based in Richmond, Virginia, with a shared services centre in Daleville, Virginia.

VCCS programmes span credit education and short-term training. FastForward offers short-term job training leading to quick workforce credentials; the G3 Program provides tuition support for students from families earning under $100,000; Credits2Careers awards college credit for military experience and prior certifications; and Transfer Virginia facilitates transitions to four-year institutions.

The system is governed by a 15-member State Board appointed by the Governor, led by a Chancellor. Its stated mission is to provide everyone the opportunity to learn and develop skills so that lives and communities are strengthened, with a focus on affordability and accessibility. Around 81% of graduates remain in their local communities after completing their studies.
